Honestly, given all the maneuvering of manpower and resources in this chapter, the king is more than justified in wanting to crush these families and place puppets in them.
I know it’s true historically, but I still feel (again for emphasis: FEEL) incredulous at (mostly chinese) stories that talk about a central government’s standing armies being loyal to a family/individual. It’s one of the reasons competent militaries these days shuffle top commanders around every two years, and it seems so obvious to me.
