I reread this in detail to examine frame transitions and sizes and closeup-vs wide view panels, and holy jeezus it’s so good. The initial Kyes flashback sequence is so well integrated: the last panel before the flashbacks starts shows the part below Lynn’s face, hiding his expression. Instead the expression is expressed through the gorgeous flashback sequence. Rain’s expression is only seen at the end of the flashback sequence when we see Rain’s with his hand raised as if feeling the remnants of Kyes’ hand. Withholding Rain’s expression till this point makes it so much more impactful.
Then Rain’s emotional state gets more unstable and it’s illustrated by the frame sizes: his face is depicted with wide panels that extend to the side of the frames, and the things he thinks/processes (eg a panel of the grave again and a panel of old party again) have tiny panels and are wide-view rather than close up. This juxtaposition shows how he’s spiraling, like he’s so wrapped in his thoughts that he can’t see or think very coherently.
Then, when his guilt is finally building up too much and he questions if Kyes knew he’d never see Lynn again, the background cracks and then gets progressively darker, and the flashbacks have a grey swirling fog around them and vignette edges. Then suddenly we’re jumpscared with the rotting corpse of Kyes (which is also in the same position/angle as the panel just before, it’s so chilling), and this is immediately juxtaposed by a single huge eye. The black background recedes immediately with this adding to the contrast showing this is the moment Lynn breaks down.
Man, I could write a 750 word literary essay on this, it’s so good.

What is all this. Are you some investigator or what. How do you even analyze the panel sizes and frames and draw conclusions based on that. Damn
Lol he got shocked from the fact ge said those before crystalizing himself
